Human beings have existed for about **250,000 years**, but only the last 4,000 years have been meaningfully recorded.
So what did we do for nearly 250,000 years? We hid in caves, huddled around small fires, and feared the things we could not explain—why the sun rises, what monstrous bird-headed creatures meant, or why stones seemed alive.
We called these things “gods” and “demons,” begging them for forgiveness and salvation.
As humanity grew and the unknowns diminished, our fear lessened. We began to see the world more rationally. Yet mysteries never disappeared. The universe itself seemed determined to display absurdity and impossibility.
Humans could no longer live in fear. With nothing else to protect us, **we had to protect ourselves**. While others live in the light, the Foundation fights in the shadows to keep the world ordinary, rational, and safe.
The SCP Foundation is an independent organization, dedicated to containing anomalous objects, entities, and phenomena. Its purpose is to preserve normalcy and protect humanity from threats that defy natural law.

The story of SCP: Secret Laboratory takes place at Site-02, a Foundation containment facility.
Due to unknown reasons, Site-02 suffers a catastrophic containment breach, releasing many dangerous anomalies.
You will take on the role of an SCP, D-Class, Scientist, MTF, or Chaos Insurgency, each with their own goals amid the chaos.
